Karlup Aboriginal Corporation was honoured to host our inaugural Cultural Immersion Workshop today, welcoming more than 40 staff from Headspace Midland for a deep and grounded cultural learning experience across key sites in the Midland area.
Participants were guided through the cultural, historical and community significance of WEEIP Park, Yagan Park, Fish Market Reserve, and the Karlup Engagement Hub. Each location holds rich stories, deep concerns, and enduring connections to the Whadjuk Noongar community, offering an important context for those working alongside young people and families in the City of Swan.
The workshop included presentations by John Mogridge, Karlup Co-Chair, and was hosted by Co-Chair Joslyn Eades-Tass. We were also privileged to feature women from the Maali Deadly Yorga Women’s Group (Shirleen Humphries and Carmen Bennell), who shared lived experiences, cultural knowledge, and insights into connection to Country, identity, and community healing.
Through story, place-based learning, and powerful conversations, the workshop created space for genuine understanding and strengthened partnerships that will support better outcomes for young people across the region.
