The Karlup Board acknowledges that they are walking in the footsteps of Noongar elders and leaders across the Noongar Nation, whose stories and learnings are passed down through generations of elders and leaders to supporting those future generations to navigate their life journey. Karlup hopes to learn from both past and present elders and leaders to build the capacity of our community to develop and deliver better culturally safe solutions across Noongar Nations.

The board plays a critical role in Karlup’s development and expansion, providing direction that keeps the organisation on strategic course to achieve our mission.

The Karlup Board is elected by and represents corporation members, while providing governance and strategic oversight. The work of the Corporation is governed by the Karlup Aboriginal Corporation Rule Book.

The Board is comprised of a maximum of 9 Directors, the majority of whom must be Aboriginal. The composition of the Board includes 2 x Expert Directors, and 2 x Indigo Junction Board representatives.

To nominate to become a Board Director

  • Be a current Karlup Aboriginal Corporation member
  • Have a connection to Midland and/or the City of Swan
  • Have skills, experience, cultural connection and knowledge which meets the needs of an existing Board vacancy

Jon Blurton has a strong personal and professional connection to the greater City of Swan. John is a proud Noongar man and is the key worker for Kwobidak Moort (Strong Fathers) in Midland supporting fathers of Aboriginal children to further empower themselves, their family and ultimately their children to have positive relationships, their family and ultimately their children to create positive relationships and build networks within community. John is also a key participant and lead of Moorditj Maaman, the Midland based Aboriginal Men’s group.

Angelina is a proud Noongar woman and has a strong personal and professional connection to the greater Midland and City of Swan area. Angelian currently works for Landgate in Midland and was key to facilitating the delivery of the Landgate’s Place Names Maali project which included working alongside the Maali Miy decoding group – a panel of Noongar Elders and Traditional Owners, including members of the Whadjuk Aboriginal Corporation’s Cultural Advice Committee – provided language, knowledge and cultural authority for the decoding process.

I am a passionate, empathetic and person-centred social worker with proven skills in individualised care plans, therapeutic crisis intervention, relationship building and achieving client outcomes. I am passionate about working with Mob and have spent my professional career working with young people in the Out of Home Care system.

I have ten years of experience in commercial service delivery, where I advanced to various state leadership roles where I was accountable for multiple locations with a revenue of over 3 million dollars. This contributes to my goal orientated nature, diverse leadership style and strong verbal and written communication skills.

As a proud Wardandi Noongar and Māori woman, I am passionate about working alongside Aboriginal people and communities where I am able to advocate, strengthen capacity and raise awareness of fundamental issues to create positive change. This is evidenced in the topic of my honours thesis, which was con ducted solely using an Aboriginal paradigm to explore the experience of an Aboriginal student (myself) undertaking a degree in social work. The aim of this research is to raise awareness of the prevalence of colonisation and whiteness in tertiary education to create a safer, more inclusive learning environment for Aboriginal students. I am aiming to have this body of work published in a peer reviewed journal in 2025.

John is connected to both Wadjuk (Perth) and Wajarri (Murchison area). He is a founding member and Co-Chair of the Karlup Aboriginal Corporation. John has a strong personal and professional connection to the Greater City of Swan area having lived in and worked for the City of Swan LGA for 15 years, currently in the role as Aboriginal Partnerships and Development.  He has worked closely with community on a number of projects which help the City of Swan community recognise the richness and depth of the contributions of Aboriginal people and culture. John has also been both a participant and lead in the delivery of Moordtij Maaman, an Aboriginal Men’s Group which has been operating successfully in Midland for many years. John is also a father of four daughters with eight grandchildren and says that his current partner keeps him grounded in culture. He values opportunities to work together to build a better and brighter future.

My name is Anthony Culbong I live in the Perth Metro area, my cultural connections are to Whadjuk Ballardong, NKB, Waugal Kiap and Nhanda. The North East part of Whadjuk country, any part of Whadjuk country is important to me. I currently work in the North East and have for a period of 8 years. The region holds a lot of cultural significance for Noongar people which includes me. My ancestors called this area home and lived and breathed Noongar existence. I have had many generations of my family live within the North East region and still do to this day. The majority of my employment opportunities have revolved around social support and social justice which has assisted me gain a strong knowledge on contemporary issues impacting Aboriginal

Joslyn Eades-Tass

A Noongar woman, Joslyn was born on Ballardong country and has traditonal custodian ties to Wagyl Kaip Southern and South West Booja regions. She has broad senior Management experience in employment procurement, mental health, regional, remote and metro justice services, cultural supervision support to frontline employees and leaders. Joslyn has an Australian Institute of Company Directors qualification and brings a wealth of experience of governance experience from a variety of state and federal government Committees and peak body Boards.

As one of two of Karlup’s “Expert Directors”, Ron brings to the Karlup Aboriginal Corporation a wealth of experience as a public accountant operating a number of small businesses in Australia and overseas. He brings this experience to bear in developing a social enterprise culture to the organisations he has led which includes National CEO of the YMCA.  He is driven to effect positive sustainable change in organisations and in communities. Empowering, integrity, a great listener, values based, empathetic, are words staff and Boards use to describe his leadership style. Drawing on many years of business experience and overlayed by a drive to serve communities, he is most value when working with Boards, CEOs and their teams, influencing long term strategic direction through governance, commercial and cultural shifts.

Sharon Gough is an Expert Director on the Board and one of two Indigo Junction representatives on the Board. Sharon is the CEO of Indigo Junction. She is an industry leader with enthusiasm for positive change, advocacy and improving the way things work. Her career has focused heavily on system reform. service design, strategic partnerships and advocacy in response to the needs of people experiencing homelessness and disadvantage.
